I posted this on the engine & transmission board, but I haven't gotten any response so I thought I'd try here. Can anyone answer my question?

The SM420 tranny in my '67 is starting to whine. A friend gave me a SM420 that he had , but it does not have the back-up light switch that mine has.
I understand that only the last year of this transmission had the switch.
Will the top plate and shifter off of my old one swap out and work? I want to keep the back-up light switch.
