That is a good point. All the bending back & forth of the marker light wiring every time you put gas in it is just asking for a broken connection or chafed wire that could cause a spark in the worst place possible.

The only good thing is that unless you are filling the tank with your lights on the lamp circuit will not have power when you have the filler cap off.

Definitely secure the wires well to the gas door and wrap them with tape and wire loom where they come anywhere near the cut out in the fender just to be safe.
