I do not believe that all LS compressors are variable. As of 2007, only Denso had a really good variable. The Visteon VS16 was just coming on line and was being built in Hungary. A variable compressor is easy to recognize. There will be a connector point on the body to supply the PWM signal to the control solenoid. There may or may not be an actual clutch. Some just have a drive pulley.
