Check out this web site ( http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg352.htm), will tell you all there is to know. Most importantly, make sure the plates are clear (not registered to another vehicle). You can call the DMV your self or ask the seller if they are DMV clear. A lot of ebay sellers will guaranty clear. Those are the ones you want.
