Those carbs weren't too bad,(even though I did swtich mine out for a Holley 750, jetted to a 700 because I simply got tired of rebuilding the guad).
I would suggest a complete rebuild on the carb, by someone that truely knows the carb. The dear little things just get old befor their time and generally need some rework.
Make sure the vacume advance is in good shape too,(lots of Folks overlook this when they tune an engine).
Basically, the better you can get the engine to breath, is the better it will run. I've been finding this out dealing with chevy small blocks for about 20 years now. So far, the 327ci is my favorite followed closely by the 350ci that my C20 is sporting now.
