That quote is pretty much correct from years ago. With clutch and pressure plate technology of today, it isn't so true anymore. I have a manually shifted drag car that doesn't break anything. With that being said, I wouldn'd do what thirdstreettito had originally posted about clutch drops/ flatshifting an NV-4500 in a suburban. That type of abuse in a truck that heavy would definitely have broken parts at least as long as his wallet could handle it.
