I'm not saying it is not worth $3500, but without me being able to physically see anything that's all I can tell you. A normal old running/driving square that is 84-87 is about 2,000. 4x4 adds 500 if it is all working and not one of those "will work if you put a front driveshaft in it" type things.
Drivetrain rebuilds are very hard to judge if it was not a crate engine replacement with paperwork and mileage listed to verify. I've just seen far to many people who do it themselves and even send it out for machine work and it is just junk within 100 miles. Even for the do it yourselfer type person it is very hard to beat the crate engine prices, especially when most 1/2 tons in the 80's were just 305's.
