Well, props to Jerry for the heads-up on the bushing!! What I did to fix this was to find a bushing like Jerry described in his post. The one I found has a 1" o.d. and a 3/4" i.d. I sanded the inside to clearance it a little and it works like a charm.
Now, the next issue I've discovered. The factory auto shifter doesn't shift as smoothly as it should. It's kinda notchy feeling going into P from N or R and the shift indicator goes well past the D when actually in drive. I don't know if there are adjustments that can be made to the linkage or how to fix this. Anyone have any ideas on this?
