Might as well put a shift kit in it while it's apart. I had a TH350 built to hold about 450hp once and they did something with removing 'every other' spring (?? .. not sure what that means) to get it to really shift firm. Man, .. I tell ya .. It was in a 69 Camaro with a built LT1 (0010 block, +.0040, steel crank, pink rods, 286 cam, 3310, headers, etc.. ) It would FLY. 2800 TCI converter, 3:42.
You'll be much happier knowing it has been gone through. Just be careful underneath it, make sure the truck is secured and you have another jack to brace the back of the engine. ..
Or, if you can, just pull engine and trans. (?) I usually just snatch them out all as one piece. ..
