I had a 1998 Mercedes e320 that the insurance company wanted to total and give me $5600 for. I got it appraised for $11,000. I sent in the paper work and they paid it with out a fight. Cost me $100 for the appraisal, best $100 I ever spent!

I would say get it appraised if you think they are low balling you, because that is what they do.
