You're going to get water inside the doors no matter what you do. One thing you can do to protect them is cut an antifreeze jug (or similar) just a little deeper than the dept of the door, that way you can wedge them in later. line the jugs with some foam rubber or pillow stuffing, this will really make them sound much better. Once that's done you can fold the jug up a little to get in the door then slide it over the speaker hole. Since most if not all the water that leaks in the door runs down the inside of the outer panel this will protect the driver from the back. I did this in my 72 for my midrange drives and it sounds much better and they're still dry after several years.
