I know that the 1970 was a transitional year for the 70 so I got to thinking when did they make the change? Maybe all you 70 owners can post up your build date and rear axle width (55.5" or 57" backing plate to backing plate) and hopefully we can narrow it down.
The build date is on the drivers door below the striker.

My build date 7/70 and I have the 57" axle
