Best jack stands you can find(tall so you don't bang your head)
Big ol fire extinguisher
keep a clean shop so you don't catch it on fire to begin with
Do wear hearing protection and masks when ness.
Do major grinding and welding outside(less mess, easier on ears and less chance of fire(especially in small garages)
Cheap tools=fingers that don't work well
Find old kitchen cabinets to put in garage, it keeps tools and parts clean and out of prying eyes.
