I wish I had pictures of my first car. It was a 65 impala I bought for $25. You almost couldn't see the engine through the grime. I had to use a putty knife just to find the valve cover bolts. When I got the valve covers off, it looked like they were still on. The sludge had hardened and filled the valve covers leaving a perfect imprint of the script "Chevrolet" in the sludge. My dad said clean them out, and then put them back on. Then he filled the entire engine with gasoline. It soaked for about 2hrs, then drained it out into a bucket.
Then used a hair dryer in the fill tube and left it running for about 5 hrs.
Filled her up with oil, and down the road she goes. You had to add a qt. of oil for every hundred miles or so for the rest of it's life.

These old chevy's don't really die, they're just resting.
