I have an unopened NOS tailgate band with a date of 1977 that has chrome plastic letters. GM must have made the switch really early. The later run bands were plastic silver not chrome. An aftermarket band won't last a year in the New Mexico sun - for $300 this is an excellent bargain IMO.
