Get an 18 month old (ie: already depreciated) modern car like a Ford Taurus or something you like the looks of (the new Impala looks cool too). Whatever you can afford.

Then it won't break down, you don't have to monkey with it, it has 18 air bags, stability control, traction control, torque management, and you'll live long enough to own a string of classic trucks.

The Firebird/TA is nice, but be sure you test drive. That generation is not fun to live with getting in and out of all the time. And the passenger floor hump is ridiculous. It was originally for the catalytic converter I think but they left the stamping in even after moving the converter.

Long and short, if you're not single or a teenager, or if you have a job you need to get to, having one of these trucks as a daily driver is not for everyone.
