When I bought a 350 crate motor from the Chevy dealer in 1999 for my '71 Jimmy, they didn't require your old small block as a core, but I heard now they do. Of course if there is a core charge and you feel you want to rebuild your old engine, you could pay the core charge and keep it. Or you could turn in the old block and be done with it. Check on core charges before you buy.
