Aluminum intake and Quadrajet. Look around on Ebay and find a stock GM Qjet intake or an Edelbrock Performer, Weiand 8004, or similar Holley or Offenhauser dual plane spread-bore intake. If you have a stock bottom end, there is no reason to go crazy-a stock Qjet will do just fine.
If you want to up the performance a bit and still stay stock bottom end you could look at throttle body (TBI) or Tuned-Port (TPI) fuel injection. Both would be a definite improvement over a 2bbl and would improve performance, mileage, and reliability.
