We are in the bodywork stage of our conversion. Had a certified welder do the work on the frame after we cut it.
As far as leaf vs. coil - the coil trailing arms are the same for both long and short beds- to do it right you just cut in front of the trailing arm crossmember so that the rear suspension moves forward as a unit. I would think it would be easier with a leaf suspension as you should be able to cut the section out of the frame behind the cab, so the bed would be the only thing to remove. In order to move the crossmember forward, you need to lift the cab.
My son decided to do all the body work at the same time as the frame chop, so the cab was easy to take off since everything was already gone.
