The DJM flip kit has offset holes in the cradle. This moves the axle housing back in order to center the wheel in the opening and make sure the driveshaft isn't too short. Sounds like you may have one of the cradles reversed.
An axle tube bent a full inch out on the end would be out of the operating angle for any of the bearings and possibly even cracked the housing, so that's not likely.
I put Cal-Tracs on my DJM flipped 69 short bed, but there are less expensive solutions to solve wheel hop. Universal traction bars run less than $50.
