I agree with this^^^.
I have cut em before and will again. On that truck I think I would not cut it until it belonged to the new buyer. Then, (and only then) discuss cutting it for them.
I don't think I would ever want to do one for another person, and never in a hurry to move it along.

The problem as I see it is this; He has a long bed for a fair price that nobody wants to buy and he knows if it were a short bed it would have already been sold. Sad, but true.
