Re: Need carburetor suggestions for 283ci
I have looked into an edlebrock and that may be in the cards. However I will need an intake too as I have an original 1967 spread bore manifold. This bumps the price if you get the package deal to somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 bucks. Then theres linkage choke and vacuum lines etc...This has been rolling around in my brain, but if I can spend a few dollars and change out rods and jets it just seems like the better way to go ATM. I do have a 350ci I am building this summer and I will probably go with the edelbrock intake and carb package. You have to be careful going with bolt on performance if you don't know what your doing though. Change cam, intake and fuel delivery and you could be spending quite a bit of time tuning to get it just right.
This is where id insert a previous message to replay too but I don't know how
I have adjusted the secondaries but haven't had a lot of time to mess around with the old truck the past few days as work is getting hectic on the farm. Before I took it to the last "mechanic" I had the secondaries pretty close to dialed in. The problem I was having at that point was a surging? hesitation? with my foot to the floor and no increase in speed. No bog though. I travel over a pretty steep grade once a week or so and I usually have to have my foot firmly planted in the throttle to get over the hill. At 65-70 if I pinned it when it was running good I never got a kickdown. Is this normal? If I slowed to 45 and pinned it it would kick down and open right up. There is a steep learning curve and I have yet to figure it all out when it comes to a q-jet(this is after a couple of years fooling around with them on different applications. I want that EFI like throttle response people talk about.
