Are you pulling back slightly on the shifter. My 71 has been torn apart for a while but I think I had to pull back on the shift lever to get it out of park. Kind of like moving a floor shift to the side to get past the detent.

As for me, yes I am.pulling back.on the shifter. It just gets stuck like a shift interlock on the newer cars. I'm gonna line spray it in the next few minutes. Just got home from work it was was super miserable muggy today. Thank you all for the responses.
