What gears to run and where to get them??
Right now, I've got 3.08s with an unadulterated NP203. I'd like a little more low end grunt for the wheeling I do (lots of rocks)... Would 3.73s be good enough or should I get 4.10s? I'll eventually be turning at least 35s... maybe 38s. Also where is the best place to get them?

I would say 4:10 for 35's and at least 4:56 for 38's. I can tell you 3:73 + 38's =

Go with the 4.56s even with 35s it's not that bad. Of course the motor is screaming at 65. Since the 38s are in your sights, go with 4.56s. I plan on running 36" TSL radials or 37" Goodyear MT/Rs w/ the 4.56s.
Now as far as where to get them is that parts or parts and installation? Parts go w/ reider racing. Parts and install come on down to Chesapeake and go to Standard Parts.

www.reiderracing.com
another: www.ring-pinion.com Does require some special tools for setting up the pinion/ring gear. The reider racing catalog has some good info.

Tink,
What rear is this for? If its the S10 and your gona remove the carrier anyway, I have a good auborn posi that I would sell for $150. I think it would fit your s10 and could check. I'm not sure if there are different carriers for specific ratios or not. If your intrested let me know. Denny |

If you're looking at doing the gears yourself check this out. http://www.fullsizechevy.com/fscu/axletech/ Its a step by step gear setup for a 10 bolt axle. You didn't specify what axles you have, but the set is pretty similar for all C-clip style axles.

Tink,
Let me know what rear you have, gear ratio and axle spline count. I bought this for a 91 S10 2WD so if the rear in the 4WD is the same then it should fit. This was for S10 and camero rears. Denny |

Well, it is a 10 bolt with 3.42s, but I'll have to check spline count and what 10 bolt it is...

If the splines match I bet that it would fit.
I could ship it to you for you to try and if not you could just ship it back. Are you game? |

Another option for the S10 is a take out Torsen from SLP. Last I saw, they were $100. Check out the Torsen web site. I like the 4.10 in the Jimmy with the 35's. Randy's R&P, Reider Racing, and Drivetrain Warehouse have all been good for me to deal with. Better do a butt load of research if you plan on setting up your own gears. Especially the 44 front since you need to pull the side bearings everytime you make a shim change.

4.10s, minimum. and if you're working with a 10 or 12 bolt out back, i'd seriosuly consider, rather than regearing your axles, to upgrade to a set of 3/4 ton axles. they already have decent gears in them, and you can normally pick them up for around $200 or so for a full set.

1FaastC10, I've been keeping my eyes open for a set of 3/4ton axles... most everything around here is the whole truck or chassis and I've already got 6 vehicles in the driveway! LOL

I do believe thats the one I have. I will check tonight or tomorrow.
Some of the earlier S10s were 24 spline. I'm not sure when the change was made. If you want it I will include shipping in the price. |
