P/S install question
Just pulled off my manual gearbox last night, wanted to make sure on something. When you install the pitman arm on the P/S box, does the little foamy piece go on after the pitman arm, before the nut?
Also, I'm waiting to get my impact back from a guy that is apparently a little bad about returning thing he borrows. I need to turn in my P/S pump for the core charge, but I haven't been able to get the pulley off without the impact. Is there no way to hold the pulley in place? LAST - I can't make sense of the P/S pump mounting bracket. Does anybody have pics of how they bolt up to the motor? Last edited by mplex2000; 09-07-2005 at 08:59 AM. |

You can remove the pulley without the impact wrench. There is a place on the pulley, right next to the nut, that a size 7/8 or 15/16 wrench can be used to hold the pulley still. Then use another wrench to loosen the nut.
I'll have to look tonight about the foamy piece or help orient the bracket, after I get home from work. Maybe someone else will help before then. |

The foam piece is a dust sheild and goes on the shaft before the pitman arm

Dangit, I think I'm missing something. I bought a used pump w/ bracket and pulley (it was the bigger pump). I turned around and bought a rebuilt pump, which is like the one in your pics.
I have a long waterpump...and my alt is on pass side. I think what's throwing me is I don't know what is supposed to attach to the long slot on the pump bracket...it looks like there might be another bracket that goes there? Hard to see everything in the pics....thanks for posting, I know that's a tight spot to get a camera into. Alf, I *think* those bolts are the same that would be used with the alt brackets, but I'm not sure. I was thinking that the pump would mount up higher. I am having the same problem. Here is my set up. As you can see the forward most grooves are being used by the A/c and the rearward most groves are being used by the alternator. I have the dual crank pulley that the single crank pulley bolts on to but it seems every set up has the power steering on the outer most groove. The A/C and all the brackets are factory it just did not come with P/S.
