72 Door shell
Hi Folks,
Been reading and enjoying your forum for a few days now so thought I'd jump in with a question. Recently picked up a 72 long bed that needs a drivers door, it's just too much work to fix. While checking prices I found different part numbers for 67-71 and 72. I thought they were the same, is it just how the int. door panel fastens to the shell and can I use a 72 int. panel on a 67-71 door? The shell prices are pretty steep so I am also checking around for used doors, just want to make sure I get something that fits. I had a 70 years ago and have always regretted selling it, I'm eager to roll up the sleeves and get busy on my new toy! |

Re: 72 Door shell
The 72 doors have a hole just below the vent window for a screw that reinforces that area of the door. The 72 doors are also set up with holes drilled for the plastic 72 door panels. 67-71 doors do not have either of these features, otherwise the doors are the same. A 72 door will fit a 67-71 cab and vise versa. WES

Re: 72 Door shell
I would look for a nice used door for a better fit. Also like stated by Wes a pre 72 door will not have the holes for the pop in retainers for the 72 door panels. The non 72 doors will have threaded nuts on the bottom of the door panel attaching area that i think are right in the way where the holes need to be for the clips.

Re: 72 Door shell
Thanks for the info!
So it sounds like if I end up with a used 67-71 door I can just drill holes and maybe grind some studs off to attach my 72 panel and be good to go. Anyone care to comment on the fit and quality of the aftermarket door shells from places like LMC? They had a statement somewhere on their site about how you will likely have to do some bodywork due to shipping damage. I was thinking that for the price you should be getting some straight panels!
