Factory overdrive transmission?
How common was it for a truck to have option M10? According to the SPID it is an overdrive transmission.

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
Honestly, I can't answer your question, but had to comment on your avatar. I thought about doing the same only with the other "joker" looking guy. When I saw your avatar I almost fell off the couch laughing.
As for overdrive... I wish I had it. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
When I saw the picture, I thought it was my neighbor. It keeps popping up so I had to use it.

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
Not real common, but i have run across it a few times over the years is it. Wasn't available behind any performance engine. I haven't seen one past 69 in a pickup.

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
This board is known for it's good demeanor....lots of cool people here.
But it made me wonder why we had "ever been arrested?" / bail bond type ad running on the site? Have I misjudged.....again?? ![]() ![]() But yeah, a factory overdrive would be a very nice thing to have indeed!

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
those were a holdover from the 40's and 50's by the time the late 60's and 70's rolled around they had a well deserved rep that they were quite brittle and could not hold up to the horsepower that was goin down the road

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
I found this one: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=562546
Not sure how to quantify 'how common' they were but I have only seen 2. One on the board and the one I found in the yard.

Re: Factory overdrive transmission?
About a year ago from Ebay I bought ( and have since sold it ) a black 69 CST with a 307, 3 on the tree with factory overdrive. It still worked as it should. One drawback with them was that if you left the overdrive engaged all the time you had to use the parking brake when you shut the truck off because even leaving the trans in gear wouldn't stop it from rolling away. If the overdrive was not engaged you could like with any manual trans, leave it in gear and it wouldn't roll away. I post pics but I'm at work on my IPad and its a pain to post pics from here.
