so i fixed my startere problem of not mesh the gears right and grinding up the flex plate, by shimming one side of the starter. till yesterday it worked fine, for some reason the aluminum casing decided to split rigth down the middle making the starter useless. This starter will be replaced w/ starter #4 in 5 months.

Messed up that reply so I'll try it again.
I kept getting the wrong starter I finally got the right one, you could tell it was right from the first time I started the truck it sounded tighter no griding, no shims. make sure the starter is the right one there were 2 diff. ones come up on the computer at the parts store (Advance Auto) for my truck 71 350/350.
