Question R4 700 Swap from a three in the tree

Hey Guys and Gals,

Any pics or instructions on tranny crossmembers used in this type of conversion?

I did some searching but no luck... any thread references would be appreciated as well....

Re: R4 700 Swap from a three in the tree

I used the stock auto crossmember w/correct mount for the transmission, removed manual mount located the replacement under the 700. Marked the frame for the new holes. Make sure the crossmember is square to the frame rails before you mark and drill holes. I also trimmed off the bottom forward lip on the crossmember to allow easier access to the pan for when the filter needs to be replaced.

You need to ditch your 3spd tranny xmember and install an auto xmember.

You couldn't find anything with the search? I searched for tranny crossmember and pulled up these helpful threads:

Re: R4 700 Swap from a three in the tree

I am not sure if it is different, but use a TH400 X-member. The speedo cable will barely reach. You will have to get the driveshaft shortened and scrounge foe a U-joint to match the 700's yoke and the truck's driveshaft (1-piece). I will see if I can find the part numbers for you. don't forget about the TV cable brackets, dipstick, lockup circuit, and flywheel cover too. I will try to post some pics before we head out to Moultrie this weekend.

You will need a coloum from a auto truck/ custom one froma van. As for the shifter linkage your best to buy the "lokar" universal kit from summit racing. A few of us here are using it and it works great. The indicator that shows you correct gears is avaible for truck and van tilt coloums.

Re: R4 700 Swap from a three in the tree

Awesome thx guys...

Alot of good suggestions...

I have the xmember from the 87 Chev that I am going to try and fabricate to fit. I will post some pics after I am done if it works.

I was under the impression that my original driveshaft would match up to the 27 Spline yoke for the tranny is that true?

Kurtis
My yoke seems to fit but I better make sure it matchs
