Emissions on 4X4's ?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Did 4wd drive trucks come with the emissions equipment that 2wd drives had? I have a 72 K20 and it does not have the charcoal canister or the second (smaller) fuel line on the frame. Was wondering if it ever had it or was removed by a previous owner. Thnaks

I would think there was no difference from a 2WD to a 4WD, but I'm not sure. More likely, it depends on where it was first sold (for instance, Calif. may be different), and the GVWR. My Calif. K20 has the charcoal canister, single fuel line, and no smog pump.

Yeah emmision stuff was based on GVW ratings rather than 2wd or 4wd and California was always stricter than anywhere else. My 76 k25 doesn't have a cat, second fuel line, airpump, or charcoal canister an never did.

My California '71 K10 has/had an evap canister and AIR (air pump) system.

1972 probally didn't have the emissions stuff.
