New suburban owner
Hey everyone. I just picked up a suburban from Florida off of E-Bay. And I thought I would introduce myself to this forum. The truck is great and the drivetrain is solid with rust in the usual areas. I am about to start the body work in one month.
I am from Louisiana and have a 72 Chevy LWB and an 89 GMC Jimmy 4x4. I was courious about how common these suburbans are? I have never seen a 67-72 4x4 Burb in my area ever. Also will 4" rear blocks off of my GMC Jimmy fit on this suburban? Thanks. I hope to be posting progress pics soon. ![]() Last edited by mrmojo32; 01-28-2009 at 02:46 PM. |

Re: New suburban owner
Welcome to the suburban board! Glad to hear from another suburban fan. As far as how rare these trucks are from the information that I have they made about 15 thousand suburbans a year during the 67-72 body style. That includes 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive vehicles. The 4x4 ones are a little rarer but they show up quite frequently on this board. My father in law has a 72 4x4 suburban that he is fixing up. As far as your suspension question goes I feel someone else would be better suited to answer that for you. If you can post pics of your new rig, would love to see it!

Re: New suburban owner
Yep.. I have not decided on a color yet... The interior is silver and blue. Even the headliner is silver.
Are there any pics of the father in laws burb? Thanks for the welcome. ![]() |

Re: New suburban owner
No we haven't snapped any pics of it yet but I will take some next time I am out at his house. I have a 72 c-20 suburban. Green exterior, green interior, not really my favorite color combo but the truck is in great original shape, very rust free and is a running and driving original big block burb.

Re: New suburban owner
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone!
I do have another question. I am going to start body work first so who do you recommend to purchase body panels from? I have used LMC before but the worst rust on the suburban is on the rear panels which I do not think LMC sells. Also, does anyone have a link to the original color chart for 69? THanks.

Re: New suburban owner
LMC has great diagrams in there catalogs. Thats about as far as it goes for me. If you go to the home page, there is a vendor area. I believe that any vendor on this board will likely have better pricing!

Re: New suburban owner
Yeah; it still shocks me that the most known about parts company is LMC. I constantly have car buffs and non car buffs tell me I should check out LMC when I tell them I collect old Chevy trucks. Compared to everyone else they are by far the most expensive, and by far the least friendly to deal with. Like ol blue said pretty everyone has the same parts so might as well get em from someone who will be nice and save you money. I.E. the vendors that advertise on this board!

Re: New suburban owner
THanks for the advice on the vendor list, lots of good stuff there.
Does anyone know where the paint code is located on the truck?

Re: New suburban owner
Thanks for the chart. I checked in the glove box and the code said 4523AA-Silver.
The interior is Silver with blue door panels but I cannot imagine painting this thing silver. agghh. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Re: New suburban owner
I have done a little bit of research and it seems that the front bumper was installed in the factory in Flint Michigan along with the PTO winch. The bumper is just like the one in the special equipment section of the brochure. The glove box plate says it came with a 6cyl so along the way it must have been changed out for the 350. It has the sm465 trans with the np205 transfer case going to 3.73 gears, but the rear end is not posi. I have 35's on it now and it still has great pick up off the line so I guess the tire size is fine.
ANyhow, it sure is a lot of fun to drive around so far! ![]()

Re: New suburban owner
Welcome to the Board from Iowa. Good looking project. I like mine a little closer to the groud, but can always appreciate a good 4X4. Mine is a daily and get more looks than if I am driving my wifes mini-van plus you always find it in the mall parking lot.

Re: New suburban owner
Yeah Haulinrat, I know what you mean. They stick out in the parking lot for sure! lol
As far as the cab lights, I have no idea if they are original equipment or not. I need to find some pics of some to compare.

Re: New suburban owner
Nice rig, I'm pretty new to the burb scene also. Had many newer burbs, and a lot of 60-66 trucks thru the years... I can't wait to get started on my 72. 135k original miles, and spent it's whole life in Idaho, until a month ago. I also love this forum, as it gets me fired up my upcoming build...!!!

Re: New suburban owner
Good deal.... You need to post some progress pics 4 sure. You are right about these forums too. They have a lot of people on here with a great deal of knowledge.
I ordered a ton of replacement panels for my suburban last week so I am pretty pumped up about getting the body work started. Nice 2 meet ya and lets see some pics.

Re: New suburban owner
MrMojo32, Here as requested is a pick of my shifter boot as far as I know it is original. The placement may look a bit off as my body came off of a 2wd however the boot came out of my original 4wd truck body. I hope this helps you out.
