what year do you call your truck with a diff clip?

i'm just curious of what others say when you swap out your front clips. do you explain the different clip everytime someone approaches you at a gas station or wherever you are out on the town to talk about your truck?

i swapped my clip from a 69 to 68. i've just been thinking when it comes to small talk, i'll probably just say my truck is a 68. but then again, i may shave the side marker lights. then i'll just say it's a 67.

what do you say?

This is an interesting question. I think the same thing myself. My frame and title is a 69. The cab and clip is 68. When somebody asks, I just say 68 because thats what it looks like. Unless its somebody that is really interested to talk...

I would say that the truck is the year it represents based on the front clip as most people would not understand the dinamics.

Why hide it? Theres absolutely nothing wrong with telling someone that asks that it's a 69 or a 70 with a 68 front end. Hotrodders used to make mods like this in the 50's on cars all the time.

The truck is what the vin says. Just cause one adds a different front end doesn't change that. Some people add a newer bed and that doesn't change the year either.

If you're not sure what year your truck is, do some research. I see this all of the time on Craigs list. A seller had a 69-70 GMC front end on one and said it was a 68 Chevy.

As far as at car shows, cruise nights, or just the guy asking you about it at the gas station i would call it the year it appears to be.

If you list it to sell or have someone wanting to buy it then go by title year.

I just tell them it's not for sale Seriously I have people ask me all the time is that a 72? I tell them no it's a 68 which it is. I think around here people that don't know assume that they were all 72's

I call mine a '67 Chevy because the cab and front clip are '67. Also it is titled a '67. The frame is a '69 or so with '71 running gear/suspension, the stepside bed is a '68 Chevy with a '62 GMC tailgate. The engine is a '74 454 Chevy/

Some day I really need to set down and figure out for sure what all years are in my truck I guess, lol.

It is just a project my son, grandsons and I dreamed up to make a driver for me.

I always end up explaining that its a '70 with a '72 clip. Although, 98% of people wouldnt know whether it was a 67 or 72...

So true. Everyone says my 71 is a 72. Then I explain the easiest way to tell is look at the rear mirror. Usually gets me a confused look.

In regards to Mr. Prostreetc-10 awhile back I had asked for his knowledge for parts to a holly carb, he was very helpful and had a few tips to share as well. It would be hard to find a nicer person to deal with and such honesty.
He is ranked high on my score card and will continue to call him for holly parts. I do not know if he would do this for everybody but he sent me parts before I sent payment, we did have several conversations on phone and
E-mail before hand, that might have shown trust in me.

if i was selling, then i obviously would be selling a 69 because of the title. if it was just a random somebody just briefly asking, i would say 68. but if they kept talking and acting more interested, then i would start to explain the clip and other mods.

I'm not bashing on anyone at all, and please don't take it that way, but why do so many people buy a 69 - 72 and then change the front clip to 67 - 68? If you want a 67 - 68 why not just buy one rather than pull two trucks apart? Just curious to see what kind of response you all will have.

71-72 start with 5 lug and disc brakes so I would guess that may be a reason. I purposely found a 68 so that I could have a true 68 short bed, but to each his own.
