I read an article several years ago, I think it as in "Chevy High Performance" that a spacer between the carb and the intake increases torque. I have a C20, 355 cid with a 2 inch aluminum open spacer, don't know if it really helps or not? What is your experience or thoughts on this theory.

Ive heard for torque..use the four hole ones..for more topend the open...I have the four hole one 2 inch...didnt help at all..lol the tricky part is, your basically fooling the engine into thinking it has a bigger carb, so you have to jet it accordingly..just my 2 cents

The only thing that I gained from a spacer was crappy throttle response. Like bigjim said, the jetting has to be correct.

only good thing spacers technically owuld do for us unless we were seriously racing is that they make the air fuel mixture mix up a little more before being sucked into combustion chambers, because it takes longer because with spacers the air fuel mixture has longer path to travel then

I just finished reading an article in Super Chevy, March issue, about a carb spacer made by a company called High Velocity Heads. The writers of the article talked about how they don't have much respect for carb spacers but they liked this one. They tested it out on a mildly built 355 and it added about 15hp and 10lb-ft. It is a plastic composite or something like that so it also gives the carb a break from the intake manifold heat. The writer of the article seemed to like it, can't always trust them, but it cost something like $85 big ones. Oh well, hope this helps.

Acordig to a Car Craft carb spacer shoot out, it sll depends on your combo.
They had a fe engines, and a butt load of spacers...some helped a little, some more than others. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. A two inch spacer on the street is not going to help unless you are trying to get more top end power out of your engine. If you had alot of gear it might help power and mileage. You would lose a little bit of bottom end power at low RPM.

I shoulda added that tehy dynoed these 2 motors, and torque increase was the norm, but not a promise. Think about a fuel injected motor...has the long runners, that's for the torque. It helps to build velosity.

True but think about this, 15 more horse, your going to notice on the top end. So your going to get another 2 to 3 mph, as for torque a stock 350 puts out over 300 ft lbs, are you going to notice another 10 or 3% off the line. On a street truck, daily driver, are you going to notice it.
