Cross Member Question - Why
What is the purpose of the odd cut outs on either end of this cross member?
Is it to reduce stress\stiffness?

Re: Cross Member Question - Why
The e-brake cables run thru there, that's the only purpose I see.

Re: Cross Member Question - Why
I'd say so that it can be installed. Tolerances are such that it's tough to make a part of one piece that will always fit internally. The cut outs let it flex outward or inward and then it gets riveted in place.

I'd put my money on frame twist so the x-member won't tear or crack

Re: Cross Member Question - Why
Glass pack was on when I bought it. I wanted it quieter. Threw a muffler on the back.
Funnily enough it sounds good now. I have 2.25" stainless pipe and a magnaflow on the way. It's low on the priority list right now. Rebuilding the cab is time consuming.... In the driveway no less . Waiting for the neighbors to complain.
