What did you get done-Late edition
It's time for the weekly edition of what did you get done this weekend. I did a lot of truck stuff. Some of it fun, some "really" sucked.
Friday-Flew to Dallas and my buddy Keith picked me up. We went to Stoked out Specialties to pick up my 77. I spent the entire day checking out stuf in their shop, and detailing my truck for Dust Off. Friday night- It rained it's 2ss off. Saturday- The rain finally cleared, the rtoads dried up (sorta) and we headed out to Dust Off. Saturday noon- Finally made it to Dust Off or as we now call it "Mud On" because it was a swamp. Hung out, got muddy, so Jason Hills Blazer and a couple of other worthy rides. Saturday night- Detailed the 77 again, and it started raining...again Sunday morning- Went to Stoked out Specialties to meet the crew going to Super Chevy. Got there late and they had already left. Drove to Ennis in the rain. Sunday 9:30- Made it to Super Chevy show in Ennis. Spent two hours cleaning the 77...again Sunday 12:30- It quit raining, and I am finally through drying my truck for the 89th time. Sunday 3:30- Went to awards. Got my asked kicked by a Pro-Street truck. It was very nice, but since when am I in the same class as a Pro-Street truck? Sunday 4:30- Loading my truck to head home. The carpeted Lower door panels that didn't get installed slide out of my hand and put a nice scratch in my cab. Sunday 5:30- Half way home I stop for gas. Getting back on the freeway, I dodge one hole and hit another. Suddenly I hear loud ugly noises. I pull over to discover my exhaust has seperated the welds at the cat. I am now running open exhaust after the Y-pipe. Sunday 6:30- I limp to the next exit and attempt to fix my exhaust with no tools. It didn't work, but I can tell you that you should NOT touch your cat with your forearm. Sunday 7:00- Decide to head home with cool new ghetto sound exhaust system. I am just getting used to the dull roar, and suddenly I loose air pressure in my system. Upon examination, I have no clue as to why. I decide to limp along at 2mph on the shoulder till I get over the next hill. I get over the next hill and discover...nothin but another hill. I do this for a few miles till I find a road side park. Sunday 8:45- The rollback wrecker shows up and tells me the first 10 miles are free. After that it 's $2.00 PER MILE. Hmmm? How far am I from home? Oh about 70 miles or a few hundred dollars. Sunday 11:36- Paid the nice wrecker drive a small fortune, gave him a nice tip for being so careful with my baby. Now I am home reporting how bad my weekend sucked to all my internet buddies. How was your weekend????

Sounds like mine went better than yours. It hurts to hear your troubles.
I finally got an engine back in my Indy Hauler. I also swapped in a 700R4. I know there are a lot of variables with all the years of trucks but you only have to drill two holes in the frame to put a 700R4 into a 1980 if you use a 1986 crossmember. I still have all of the finishing to do including exhaust, fuel and carb, but the heavy lifting a hard parts are done. Once this engine is broken in with the carb, I'll be putting a TPI intake with a megasquirt controller on it. Oh yeah, I changed the oil in my 86 to get ready for a 2000 mile road trip, gotta love 25 mpg when diesel is still less than 2.00, especially compared to 14 mpg with my 84 that has to have 92 octane...

I am 95% done in my tranny swap. All I have left to do is give measurements to BTO over the phone, take it for a test drive, and be done!
Also worked on the 76 Honda. It didn't pass pretest so I had to work on it to pass smog. I'm taking it in tomorrow so wish me luck!

Ken,
1: Why didn't you call me? We would have loaded up the trailer and came and got you. 2: Was it the front or did the hole system go down? 3. I'll get with Roger to have arrangements made to have the truck picked up fixed and returned. 4. You missed the opportunity of a lifetime, you could have drove the Olds home, now that's ghetto! |

2: Was it the front or did the hole system go down? I "thought" it was the front end because it dropped first. Later I realized it was the whole system. When the tanks fill, no matter what corner I try to air up it bleeds off. 3. I'll get with Roger to have arrangements made to have the truck picked up fixed and returned. I'll call him today. I know Roger will be take care of it. 4. You missed the opportunity of a lifetime, you could have drove the Olds home, now that's ghetto! And deprive you of driving your "Pimp my Ride" candidate? I wouldn't do a brotha that way. Thanks for the offer |

I went to a small local show on Saturday. Later that evening I was out driving around next to the local dragstrip and happened across this! I wonder if he'll trade for my 87?
sorry for the bad pic, it's my camera phone.

Worked 16-hours on Saturday, wake up Sunday morning, and feel like crap. Ended up not working Sunday or today. I think I may have gotten food poisoning from the Taco Bell I ate Saturday night.

We need to meet up at one of the shows. been a while since I have gone to one. Can't make it this weekend but second sat I can...where is that one? Use to be Arby's on Clay but I think it was moved. Well My weekend works was done last week. Fixed the burb brakes...froze up adjuster on left rear. No breaks on that side at all LOL. Promptly tried to put myself through windsheild...Peddle is way higher then it has ever been since I have owned it. Friday wife tried to put her and kids through windshield...I warned her...did not go LOL. I alos finnaly got the mis out of the 75 and it's running strong. Unfortunaly it's blowing a puff of blue on start up. Time to get the valve guild seals done. Saturday I did yard work. Picked up trailer I needed to use for little pick up a 100 miles down road. Ended up repacking wheel bearings on bnarrowed trailer and damn near called off the pick up. No tires matched on trailer and all were car tires and under rated for the trailer. Sunday I went for it and drove down to Macon to pick up a 1984 4Runner for $300. It may well replace my 75 Jimmy as trail rig. 75 is for sale and if I can sell it fast I found a clean stock 75 I want to buy for just a driver. Might even tow our camper with it for close trips...that if somebody buys what I have. I tell you what. Trailering 5600lb of truck and trailer sure is a lot easier then 9,000lb. The 454 88 Burb towed without complaint that 5600 lb at a steady 2500 RPM (63mph). Just set the cruise and let it go. That really is it's sweet spot. Pulling grade it would go down to 61mph and hold. Never herd it ping even on 87 octane in the tank. Ran 190 on the water temp, 210 on the oil temp and 180 on the tranny temp. I think with overdrive it would be a very happy truck. Trailer did ok but thos car tires were not happy. I think for the next club newsletter I may do a tire tech for tow rigs and trailers. See if the safety can brought up.

this weekend
Friday night. got home from work, sat around fro a while, decided I was tired of the rain here, so I told the wife I was gonna get up early and go to Dust OFF, she said it sounded cool and she would like to go.
Saturday Left about 8 headed toward Dallas, thinkin I'll drive out of the rain in a little while. Rolled into Dallas about 1:30, guess what, still raining. Drove out to Dust off, still raining so I head back to mesquite to get a room. Surely it'll stop rainin soon right? Go back to Dust Off because it kinda stopped rainin unload the wife and kids walk around in mud. See Ken's truck and check it out look around for him, but don't see any one around his truck or the 55 from SOS. about this time it starts to rain again, load up the kids and wife and head to Holiday Inn. Tellin my wife the weather is gonna be nice tomorrow, the whole time. Sunday Wake up expecting to see sunshine, nope more rain. Finally stops rainin about 11:00 go back to dust off , get muddy leave. Go over to Super Chevy, watch some racing(my 4 year old daughter is now hooked on drag racing) walk around check out some cool rides. Find Ken's truck again, but he is nowhere around again, figured he was at awards ceremony, realized it was 4:00 and the kids had school tomorrow so we loaded upand headed home I did decide that Ken does not actually exist, his truck does , but he is just a figment of all of our imaginations. All in all we had a good time, but i am sick of all this rain. |

Friday- Took the wife out for dinner before heading home to clean her 98 for Dustoff.
Saturday- Nearly got stuck in the mud at Dustoff and attempt to clean off mud piles on the rear quarters and semi-polish the wheels. Sunday- Got stuck in the mud at Dustoff and cleaned wheels before being judged at 5pm. The show was good and would have been awesome if not for the rain. |

I kinda figured that the dust off would be rained out. I stayed in the relative safety of my garage, and got my 87 up and running. I spent Sunday afternoon de-grunging it, and it looks pretty decent. The idiot kid that had the truck before me really needs a lesson in how to keep up a car. I suppose if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have it now, though.
FWIW, I have met Ken, but haven't seen the truck in person. Maybe it's not a coincidence.

I worked on my rear disc brake conversion some more. Just about done with it. I could finish today, but it's raining here and although I have a shop to work in, I just don't feel like messing with it. I might go out in a little while and bleed the brakes and call it done. I do have to adjust the passenger side park brake cable a tad too.
