Cab Floor Repair
Hi all:
I'm doing some research into repairing the floor in my '87. I'm not quite sure which repair panels I will need for the job. I know that I will need the full length outer rocker panel and the matching inner panel as well as the floor pan. I guess I'm confused about the floor supports. There seems to be several versions. There are "OE" style and "slip on" style. Which is better to use? Am I missing anything? Any other helpful advice? Thanks in advance. Jason |

OE style requires cutting the rusted old one off, the slip on style gets welded over/onto the old one.

So, if I'm replacing the cab floor and the rockers, should I use the OE floor support?
When replacing the floor pan, is it better to cut the old pan out and put the new one back in its place or leave about an inch of material all around the edge and weld the new pan on top? When my father had the floor replaced in his car the body man left about 1" all around and welded the new panel on top. Then he got under the car and caulked the seam with automotive silicon. Thanks for the help. Jason |

Without looking at the support I couldn't tell you. If it is rusted out, you probably want to replace it. If you don't think you can get it off without damage, you might want to replace it also.
As for the repair, cut out as much rust as possible and leave a ridge/edge as you described. I would personally paint over the sanded/welded area and the bottom with POR15 or some other rust sealer and them put some seam sealer on it.
