Weekend progress pics!
This is what I got done last weekend after hours of pressure washing, sanding, grinding, por-15ing and painting. Its not perfect but is a whole lot better than it was. The new front springs helped to level it up too. The old ones had a broken leaf on the drivers side. 4" lift and 35's, (33's right now, need more cash, lol) I can't wait. I Still have a long way to go, lol.
Before After The wheels and centers turned out nice. |

Yep, I top coated the Por-15. Good Ol' Walmart gloss black, easy to touch up later on if needed. I used Rustoleum high temp paint on the tranny and transfer case. If you look in the top pic you can see the wheels pretty good. I used Aircraft Remover paint stripper on the centers. Totally amazed me at how good they looked after removing a couple coats of paint and using some steel wool.

I like it! From the picture it looks like you have a cast iron bell housing. Is that stock? When I switched from a TH350 to a SM465 I went with the Cast bell housing just because I like to be able to look inside. :-)

"POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint, acknowledged worldwide as the finest rust preventive coating ever developed, stops rust permanently and is the product by which all others are measured." So they say.

I did half of my frame last year with por15. It was very rusty and I chipped off a layer of rust and then brushed it on. The frame sat out all winter covered in a tarp which was covered with a layer of snow. In the spring I took the tarp off only to find a whole bunch of places where the rust was coming through. I now have to scuff it down a put another coat on and hope it sticks, I re-read the insrtuctions on the can and it says to do 2 coats. For the rest of the frame I am using the metal-ready prep product first and I probably will end up putting 2 coats on which will be tricky due to the constraints that you have to adbide by.
