Get a GM parts manual off of eBay. I have the 73-78, 79-84, and the 85. It's the best way to cross reference parts. Make sure you get the parts catalog, NOT the illustration catalog, as it only has the group codes, not the actual part numbers. The illustration catalog is helpful, but not necessary.

Hope this helps

A crash book by Mitchell also works. Body shops have them. Mostly for sheetmetal, interior and suspension, some engine stuff. I have one from 1995 and it works for 81 to 91 subs and one tons, and all the newer stuff. Look up your part, then check to see if it is used in other years. Thats the way I found out for sure that all front doors on 73 to 91 subs, 73 to 87 trucks and one tons are the same. Same part number for the door shell.

This isn't actually accurate. The outer skin is the same, but the inside is not. Doors are split 73-76 and 77-91 for the fronts. 77-91 has the provision for the power windows, where the 73-76 does not. A complete door will bolt up to any year, BUT if you shell is bad, you cannot put 77-91 guts in a 73-76 and expect it to work, same is true in reverse.

I stand corrected, the insides are different ,but the part number is the same for the door shell its self. In a body shop if the insides have to be transfered it is done by the bodyman and pays accordingly. This is pointed out in the crash book.

I suppose I am assuming that a guy that is swapping doors can swap the insides too.(naaaah.......#1, I am assuming.....#2 my wife says I am wrong ALL the time). So I AM WRONG..............she said that I WILL be punished.... ......hmmmmm........maybe ....not .....that....bad ....after all...

Kaptkaos, I was wrong. I should have said '77 to '88 regular trucks and '77 to 91 'Burbs and 1 tons. I am sorry for any confusion (Senior moment I guess )
