Drive Line Mounting Help
I have questions about the diffrent mounting locations for the carrier bearing on the drive shaft.
I have a 67 C10 LWB with the style of mount that mounts to the top of th X - member with one bolt in front of the other. I upgraded to a 5 Lug 1972 rear end, and am running a 350 / TH350 setup. The drive line I bought (to use on this project) has the carrier bearing mount style that mounts on the lower part of the crossmember, and has bolts on each side. Can someone explain what drive lines (years / application C-10 C-20 etc) were used on what carrier mount location (see photo below) so I can get the correct setup? I'm tempted to just have someone send me the lower mounting bracket style, and use the bigger dia shaft I just bought. HELP ! Darren

Darren,
There's a third option you haven't listed, which uses the same carrier bearing mount as you describe, but the bracket mounts to the rear of the crossmember and the bearing assembly hangs down. Let's see if this pic helps. This is from my '72 C20, and I've found such brackets on other 3/4 tons. I suspect it came with most factory 4 speed and HD drivelines. I also transplanted this same carrier bearing / driveshaft setup into my son's '69 C10 when we went from a 3 spd (with the slip joint on the output shaft) to the SM465 4spd with a fixed yoke on the output. Gotta have some give in there somewhere... Hope this helps...SSOW

Stickshift,
Thanks for the input. Can anyone else tell me if they have ever seen the setup as shown from Stickshift above, in a 1/2 ton? Or only 3/4 ton? Did they use the carrier setup with the bolts on in front of the other in 1972? Thanks guys, But I still need some clarity / help on this. I need to know what type of donor truck to get a drive shaft from. Darren
