? for those converting to 2wd?
Has anyone completed this conversion? Is the rear conversion accomplished by simply installing lowering blocks? I was going to look for a 2wd frame but I already have a crossmember from a 2wd truck and a rear to still the 5 lug axles. I haven't measured, but does anyone know if the axles from a 5 lug truck rear will interchange in the 4X4 Blazer rear?
Thanks, Brian |

g m made many different axel widths,,,, 9 times out of ten I have found that the 5 bolts are the same a the 4x4 6 lug and you cant insall lowering blocks in the rear cause the axel sits on top.. you would have to move the axel onto the top of the leave springs first and this would lower the rear about4-5 inches,,, hope this helps

what I ment by the rear blocks is the leave springs sit on top of the rear end ,,,so if you put blocks in it would lift it ,,I said it wrong before but i was right about flipping the rear end to the top of the leaf springs...

Thanks for the info. I guess that means I would have to weld some spring perches to bottom of the rear end.

I have done several of those conversions... the most common being using a 71 - 80 5 lug rear end and welding on the spring perches... and mounting on top of the stock springs... It would also depend on what ride height you want.. if you switch the spring hangars from a leaf sprung 67 - 72 2WD truck you will loose about 4 more inches in ride height...
Yes any 71 - 80 ...12 bolt 2WD axles should bolt directly into your 4X4 housing.. Attached is a picture of one conversion... using the stock Blazer spring perches with a 2WD axle on top of the leaf springs.. and 1 1/2 coils cut from the fronts springs.... |
