I've got $4000 to spend on a truck...what can I get?
My beautiful financial manager (the wife) has given me a $4000 budget that I can use towards the purchase of a new old truck.
We both like the 60-66 and the 67-72 body styles. We just want a truck that'll be fun to wrench on, great for cruizin', and may take a run or two down the 1/4 mile now and then. Probably start with a small-block, and (maybe) someday drop in a big block. I've been shopping around on the internet, and I know I should be able to hook-up a fairly decent, running, driveable truck for that price, or less. But I can't hear the truck, can't drive it, and can't see the rust spots. I'd prefer to spend less, because it gives me some extra $$$ to work with (start on body, etc). What should I be able to get for under $4k (condition, body style, etc)? Thanks! |

There are a lot of $1000 dollar trucks out there that are daily drivers. That would leave enough money to make it yours. I don't know what's available in Alaska, though. Welcome from soggy western Washington.

Hi Scott. Thanks for the reply.
I shoulda mentioned in my post that I am transferring this May to Michigan (I'm active duty Coast Guard). I don't have to worry about Alaska cars!

you can build a nice driver or purchase one for under $4000. you could also buy a really nice driver off of ebay for around 3000 and dump 1000 into upgrades.

That is about the ugliest truck I've ever seen. I'd rather drive a rusty Ford than that!! and that's saying alot.

WOW-that's,uh,CREATIVE!!! Kinda like a VW bug-so ugly it's cute. I think he shoulda squared off the front fenders a little,to match the rear ones, and it needs an illuminated flying goddess hood ornament. With clear wings-don't wanna have it clash with the white hood...
