Weird Suspension/Vin #
This is the first thread that I've started and I've only had two or three other posts since I've joined so go easy on me. I have a lead on a 1966 Chevy that I want to buy but when I decoded the vin on a the only site I could find it couldn't tell me very much. Then number that I got off the registration was C15465119529 or C1546S119529. Can't read my writting right now!! The other question I have was the rear suspension is the trailing arm and coil spring setup but there is some additional springs "U" bolted to the frame that look like a set of Leaf springs that were cut in half. They are really really weird! Can someone shed some light on the Vin # and the extra leaf springs. It looks to me like it was something a farm just cut up and put together.

If the springs are in back of the axle they are helper(overload) springs, and are common. You can find them for sale on 67-72 parts board all the time.
Vin decode from LMC catalog C1546S119529 C=conventional 15= 1/2 ton 46(model type) is unlisted 4=pickup (could be 04=stepside, 34=fleetside) S = st louis 119529=vehicle built number Maybe somebody else can help with more details.

I agree with RODNOK1 the springs are helper springs and are not that uncommon on these trucks. The VIN number you posted is for a 1966 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive truck built in London,Canada if the 5th digit is in fact a 5.If the 5th digit is S then its St Louis. It was truck number 19529 built at that plant.Hope this helps!!

Thanks guys. Is there anyway to tell what engine and tranny came in the truck from the factory from the vin#? I'd like to know if the 75,XXX miles that are on the truck 283 small block and 3 on the tree are original or if it had something else in it. The kid that owns it now can't tell me. Thanks for the info on the helper springs. I didn't know that they made those for the coil spring type suspension.
