I have painted everything from tractors to cadillacs, but my Blazer, up until now, was never ready, or needed paint. I will be painting it hopefully sometime within the next two months or so.

I have not used base/clears, but have a lot of experience with the old style automotive paints (urethanes and such).

My advice to you, clean clean clean. I cannot stress to you enough how important it is to keep oils, (even from your hands), dust, and the like, off the item to be painted. There is a bit to learn, but there are lots of ways to learn. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or post it. I dont know everything, but I know enough to get a good paint job done

I'm no pro but I painted my Blazer with basecoat/clearcoat. It's alot of surface to cover but not too hard. I asked for the P Sheet that comes with the paint and followed the directions. I used a 3M disposable resporator, good for 1 month after seal is broken. Cold = runs, I know!. I used a solid color so I could sand any mistakes. My Longhorn is hand painted with Rustoleum and took a couple of months to dry and dosen't look as pretty as my Blazer.

paint

If you are not set up to paint at home (paint booth) or something close i suggest going with a urithane it is much more forgiving specialy on solid colors . I have even painted outside with great results just had to pick out a few sceeters and walah .
