What Year 16" Wheels Will Fit?

Hey, anyone know what year wheels will fit our trucks? Thinking about buying some 16" ralley wheels for my K5. I have located a set off a 88 or 89 but was wondering if the offset is correct.

DAN"L I have a set of American Racing wheels that were on my blazer when I got it. They are 16 x 8 inches. I'll take 100.00 for them and they have 265 75 16 on them now may pass inspection. I also have the center caps too. moodyholler

Moody, thanks for the response. I will keep your wheels in mind but really was wanting a set of 16" stock wheels or GM ralley wheels.

The only stock 16 inch wheels that will fit these trucks properly are the ones that were optional during these years, and they are very rare. The '88 and up wheels have the wrong offset (way too much backspacing), and the center holes are too small.

I don't think any of the ralley wheels were 16 inch. I have heard of people getting newer alluminum wheels machined so the center hole fits over the hub. I don't know if you could do the same with steel wheels.

Nope, they would be plain old steel wheels.

what were those wheels that were on the add that somebody posted a while back? remember that post where everybod was trying to see what was wrong in the picture? it was a K5 with a bench seat in the front? somebody was talking about those wheels being odd too

I think GEE EMM Posted that picture. It was from an ad in '69. Who knows what wheels those were because I pretty sure that was a pre-production model.

Thanks Man! I gotta give credit to Chevrolet though. Did you get those hubcabs on e-bay? There was another set yesterday too. It was a full set, one of the rears was fairly dented though.

Funny you should ask Bouncy. I had planned to bid near item end time but went to the salvage yard and did not return in time. Salvage dude said disc brake wheels are different from drum brake wheels. I actually bought four wheels but only two are road worthy. The other two have elongated lug holes. Think I can use one of those as a spare though. I did not see the set yesterday.


Regardless who gets the credit they look great.

Never heard of disc wheels being different. Wouldn't that mean that I couldn't rotate my tires because the front is disc and the rear is drum? I'll have to check that out.

Salvage dude had both type wheels. The difference is the bevel on the backside of the drum brake wheel will not clear the disc rotor. I assume only the disc brake wheels were produced after that option became available. If that is true it really should not matter to anyone with wheels that originally came with their trucks. However it could matter, assuming it is true, to someone purchasing a set of wheels to place on a truck. Urban legend or not?
