The cab on my '82 is in pretty good shape. Not totally rust free but no rot. Truck is in Anderson which is a little north of Indy. http://mypage.iu.edu/~jwreding/k20
The brown stuff all over the floor is just surface rust.

you do know that 73-80 cabs are different? 81-87 take a different front clip unless you get that too. Just letting you know 73-80 cowl is on the hood,81-87 has the cowl seperate from the hood..and hinges age different.

i've got a buddy who is looking to sell my old 82 C10 cab, which could be made to work (your floor hump should be a little different, since this is 2wd.) making the 73-80 front clip work is easy, just bolt it on, and change the wiper mechanisms. needs cab corners, but the price im sure is very reasonable. i have most of the front clip left for it as well, in reasonable condition if you're interested in going the 81+ clip route. what i dont have of the clip, he does. i'm in Elkhart. where in Northern IN are you? I don't have a lot of time to put into this restoration. I want a solid cab. Don't want to end up replacing sheet metal. I want a solid floor, supports, mounts, etc. Replacing cab corners is not a huge task, but I know from past experience, that when the cab corners are rusted, there is usually more rust involved. |

this is not one of the "usual" cases. this truck actually belonged to me, i tore it down, and discovered that a frame off was more than i was ready to tackle at the time. it sat in my garage for a year, and went directly to his, where it has been for almost 2 years.
where in IN are you from? maybe you could stop by and take a look for yourself if you're close. |

Cab / Front clip
I'm in LaPorte, Indiana. About an hour from you to the west.
I'm planning on leaving for Tennessee with my trailer Saturday morning, to buy a complete 87 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd for the body. How much are you asking, and what have you got ? If it's 81 up, I may need the cab & front clip. Hood & all. No rust, right ? Can you send me some quick images ? I really prefer the early style front clip, like what's on my 78. But from what I've been told, if using a newer cab (87) the older style won't work. My truck is a Cheyenne, red w/ white insert on side, & white roof. I would really like to keep the side trim & color scheme. Looks like the side marker on the front fender (87) is right where the bottom of the trim goes. Don't really care for the later style grill either. |

what you have been told is incorrect. swapping a 73-80 clip onto an 81-87 truck is gravy. take the wiper mechanism from the 73-80 truck (you obviously have that) and swap it into the 81-87. bolt your 73-80 front clip to it. all of the bolts line up. the only major difference is the wiper mech, and the 81-87s have the hood hinges recessed into the cowl.
you can do the opposite 81-87 clip on a 73-80 cab by swapping wiper mechs and adding slots for the hinges. everything else is a direct bolt in. even your dash pad will fit the 81+ dash. i sold it to him for $150 with a bunch of extra parts, so i'd imagine the price is pretty reasonable. an hour drive, and i can only imagine the $ savings from buying an entire truck, plus the saved gas money just might make it worth your while. |

OK. I could ride over there thursday after 6PM. Would that work ? Has the cab got a good windshield & doors ? Send me an address & phone number. I'll do a mapquest request for a route. Is there a clear title ? |
