Cab Cradle? Rotiserie?
I'm doing a "cab off" de-rust-stration of a 64 1/2 ton long bed.
I was wondering what any of your are using to set the cab on? I have it on blocks right now, but of course it doesn't roll around too good. For a while, I had the cab tipped sideways, with the left side rocker about head level..... sure was a lot nicer working on. Only problem, now that I have the left side done, I don't want to tip up the cab the other way and mess up my new rocker. Sure would be nice to have a "cab rotiserie" of some sort. Anyone have photos of any set-ups for working on cabs, or know where to look on the net for the same? |

Cab Prop
I resorted to a high tech solution to working on my cab comfortably. Hopefully I don't mess up my new rocker panel. Surely, there must be something better?

How many friends did it take to lift the cab off. I am about to do some cab swapping on a couple of frames I have and just curious as to how much help I will need to buy beer for. I might just borrow my uncles tractor and lift it off. The creeper idea is ok if you have pretty stout creepers I guess.

Raising the Titanic (cab)
It took three to take the cab off...... me, myself, and I. A couple of beers for clear thinking helped though. I used my engine hoist, hooked to a 4" x 4" post and ran it through the doorways. I drilled couple of holes in the post, then put an eye bolt in each end, attached rope, and up she went.

Two strong guys minimum if cab is gutted(no doors etc), 4 can take it anywhere. I used the rafters on my shop & a come-along when I had no help, not as heavy as you think. Brian

I have one cab on an old railroad cart and another on 4x4's with casters.
I think ill use 2 engine stands to build a rotiserie that can be used for other stuff. Space is a premium, which is why I need to build this truck. So it will take up less all together. Get ur dun!

I built a roll around frame the same width as the pickup and five foot long and used the cutt off legs with the rollers from brick layers scaffolding. It works really well. I can move it anywhere in the shop, load it on a trailer, etc. I can post a picture if interested.

Hot Rod Magazine Plans
If anyone can find the plans for building the rotiserie, I'd be grateful. I've searched Hot Rod Magazine Online for them, but have come up empty. Perhaps I'm missing them. Thanks.
