What would cause a trailing arm to crack??

My passenger side one, cracked where the front part of the u-bolt goes in, across the top plate, down to the bottom plate, all that held it together is the bottom plate. I will take pics when I get a chance to get some batterys.

Thanks

Taylor

To have them crack in that spot is a VERY common problem with the trailering arms, I would have to guess that the majority of the trucks out there are cracked in that same spot. The cause? Poor design? 30 years of use?
