6-lug Conversion Rotors Question?
Does anyone have a 6-lug conversion rotor they could look at? I'm wondering if there is a "CASTING #" anywhere on these rotors. If anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a set of Early Classic 6 lug rotors at home in my shed. I'll look, but all I remember is the "minimum thickness" cast into them. ECE disguised them well if they are an OEM rotor. They came in unmarked boxes.

I ain't no help, either. They came in a box, and they went on the truck. 5-lug GM rotors are a direct replacement, if I ever decide to go with that pattern option.

I'm hoping to get a casting # directly off the rotor itself... I deal with 2 mojor brake suppliers. I was told all rotors and drums all have a number cast into them for the cast molding. With that #, the part can be interchanged to my suppliers #. Thanks guys for your quick response.

That is true for most OEM or aftermarket OEM parts. (Key being OEM) The 6 lug rotors for the disk brake conversions are for custom aplications and are usualy made by the company that manufactures the conversion spindles most of witch do not use casting numbers. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

The casting number on the rotors is "6069"

You should try the 1990 2x4 3/4 ton light duty rotors, they are 6 lug and have the same measurements as the early disc setups. That's what I am running but with the 1990 spindle also...

I already tried them everything was correct except the alignment... the rotor surface centerline was too far outboard in relation to the caliper... I was kinda excited until it came to putting it on my truck.... My cost was like $35.00 or so each... Oh Well..

Well Damn... looks like the second try was the same results as the first. So, I'll be looking into the complete spindle thing like you did... I'm interested in evertything that you needed. Do you remember? Do you just use the 88-92 ball joints on the 71-86 control arms? Then use the 88-92 outer tie rod end? or something different? PM if you'd like... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you check GMC Pauls, I know he has the kit but I thought he has the rotors for replacement also...

I used the 88-98 ball joints on the stock 1/2 ton 67-72 upper control arm and then had to use a 3/4 TON 67-72 lower a-arms to make up for the difference in the spindle. Then I used a different outer tie rod which I will have to look up the number for...

FirstGen, Can you post all the info here so the rest of us can benefit from this conversion. Did you stock or drop spindles? That sounds like it might be a lower cost conversion than going with a new conversion kit.

I have a pair of spindles off of my sons' '96 GMC Sportside, left over after installing dropped spindles. If anyone wants them, just pay the shipping. The truck had less than 60K miles when these came off of it....in summer of '02.
There would be a packaging charge, too. But, no charge for the spindles to anyone who wants them.

You'll have to make sure that those spindles had the 1.25" rotors not the 1" rotors which most of them had. The 1.25" rotor style are off the early 88-91 3/4 ton light duty 2x4... there are other year and makes but I don't remember off hand.

FirstGen, I too looked through every page of the FAQ section and could not find it. Oh well. I am not converting mine yet...still priming the body parts. I will get to disc brakes long after the paint is done.

Basically, I bought a 1990 model truck from K-member for like a $100. I used the spindles, calipers, brake lines, bearings, upper and lower ball joints, and factory rotors. You will also need a pair of 3/4 ton LOWER a-arm off a 1968-1972 chevy truck (C20). The only special piece in the combo is the OUTER tie rod as I have listed above from MOOG. The inner one is a stock 1968 chevy truck tie rod. It's possible that I have the two tie rod part numbers backwards but I remember the one off tie rod being more expensive than the stock one. You will also now need the 14mm lug nuts for the front. I went ahead a re-drilled my rear axles to take the same studs since the factory studs look weak as hell. -Taylor
