Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

i pick the motor up tommorow, the block and heads are from a 2003 chevy ssr
and the fuel rails, intake, water pump and oil pan are from the new z06
got it off a guy who did a z06 swap to his ssr and the new z06 parts i get wouldnt let the motor fit right so i get lucky i guess,
found it on craigslist for 1900.00 gave him 1700.00
says he did the swap at a little over nine thousand miles
ill get some picks up after i get it

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

Did it come with the computer? Painless and FAST just came out with ls-1 wiring kits, FAST makes a little brain for the ls-1 that more or less deletes the need for most the sensors and basically becomes a glorified carb. I used to have a bunch of ls-1 parts from our class 1 off-road car but they've been used/sold over the months.

If your planing on running a/c you going to need to convert the pully to a serpentine style pully if you use the stock compressor, OR, Street&Perfomance makes a r12 compressor with the needed pully that will work just fine.

Make sure you get a good fuel pump/filter, the pressure at the fuel rails needs to be 60-65psi if i remember correctly.

If you really want to get crazy, i'd suggest looking into a new tranny swap as well, i dont remeber the numbers but its only 3inchs longer and is a 4 speed with overdrive. thats basically what im going to do whenever the time comes and i have the time and place for it.

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

Yea, FAST is by far the best of the two, they actually make it to your spec and heat wrap/soder. Theres another company that actually is building a new harness for our's out of texas that i cant think of at the moment.

I'd suggest going with a truck manifold, it provides far better torque then the ls-1/ls-6 manifolds. the a/c compressor was the hardest item for me to find, the stock ls-1 alt. should be fine, along with the stock power steering pump. Good luck with the swap, you have no idea how much i want to do it myself..

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

N2TRUX - i got a silver 4x4 that was bought new by a old lady here in scottsdale, never off-roaded, and the inside is spotless, no cracks, rips stains, nothing. $2200. Put some 33inch m/t's and 10 hole rally's, a new 700r4, deleted the ESC, with a msd system, new carb. im at $3600 and it runs perfect, the paint doesnt look half bad either. But, i realllllllllly want a 72' for a cruiser. /End thread jack/

72Blazercst - FAST quoted us $900 for a 1 off harness via telephone, i've never heard of speartech before, i'll have to look into them.

classicstyle,
i need the harness and computer too, so i am going to give fuel a call and see what they quote me,
i am also seeing a problem coming up with the new z06 intake it has the new electronic throttle control, so i need to see if i can get that going or i might have to switch to the old cable throttle

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

The only thing i could think of is get a throttle by wire gas pedal assembly, someone has to make a kit, i've also seen some take off's on ebay. I dont know how hard it would be to put the 72' gas pedal on the assembly or bolt that to the body of a 72. it'd be a pretty unique feature but it may be to much of a headache.

i'll keep an eye out for any "good deals" i see.

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

i look for that Driven-by-wire assembly,
i would like to keep the clutter down and have the engine bay look real clean,
the ones you had seen how much were they going for

Re: Has any body install a ls1 gen III

I've purchased an ls-1 out of a '99 ss camaro and I'm dropping it into my '72 c/10. If and when I get the chance. Let me know about the wireing situation. I'm still working on my frame and suspention. good luck.
