Bolt index
Given that I'm probably like most here that like to tear into their trucks, fix things, make things nice; I need some help. I have a problem of misplacing bolts and was wondering if there is a master of all that knows what bolts are what, size, replacements, etc. Currently, I'm trying to get my inspection cover back on but don't have any of the bolts to do so.

The bolts should all be (SAE) 1/4-5/16-3/8-7/16-1/2-5/8ths. the trick is to measure the depth to determine the length of bolt you will need.

Best thing to do is steal a bunch of sandwich bags out of the kitchen. Take a pen and index cards and write down where the bolts came from, draw a picture if it helps. Then put the bolts and card in the bag and zip it shut. Put the bags in a box and mark the box with what's in it.
Then when you go to put things back together you only have to find the box.  Or you can do what I did. Buy a bolt kit from Totally Stainless. The bolts are all in labeled packages.

 with everyone. A handy tool is a thread gauge - if you're not sure what the bolt is then you can just put this in the hole and find the exact thread. I have a drawer with the "standard" sizes noted previously as well - I just bring 'em over and find the right one
